Muzeul de artă din Ploieşti este găzduit de o vilă somptuoasă, fosta reşedinţă a fruntaşului liberal Ion Ionescu-Quintus, tatăl politicianului contemporan Mircea Ionescu-Quintus (n. 1917). Vila a fost construită la sfârşitul secolului 19 pentru bancherul ploieştean Ghiţă Ionescu, tatăl lui Ion - este vorba aici de o adevărată dinastie.
Interioarele sunt superbe: tavane bogat împodobite, sobe din cahle smălţuite iar în holul central o scară monumentală decorată cu statui.
În perioada vizitei avea loc Bienala Internaţională de Gravură "Iosef Iser" şi astfel colecţia permanentă nu se putea vizita. Expoziţia temporară era interesantă iar pentru numeroasele opere de valoare din colecţia muzeului merită o revenire ulterioară.
The Prahova County "Ion Ionescu-Quintus" Art Museum
The art museum in Ploieşti is hosted in a grand villa, former residence of Liberal politician Ion-Ionescu Quintus, the father of contemporary politician Mircea Ionescu-Quintus (b. 1917). It was built at the end of the 19th century for the wealthy banker Ghiţă Ionescu, father of Ion - we have a real dinasty here.
The interiors are richly decorated: the ceilings, the elegant tiled stoves and the grand staircase in the central hallway, flanked by two bronze statues.
During my visit the museum was hosting The "Iosef Iser" International Contemporary Engraving Biennal Exhibition, so the permanent exhibition was not on display. The temporary exhibition was interesting and another visit is surely worthwhile to admire the precious art collection containing numerous works of mostly Romanian painters.
