The Balchik Botanical Garden

In Romania as well as Bulgaria, when one says Balchik, one says Queen Mary's Palace. Built by Queen Mary of Romania in the interwar period, when the town was part of Grater Romania, the royal presence transformed the small village into the luxury resort of the romanian aristocracy.
Today it is still the main tourist attraction of the city, pairing up beautifully with Cape Kaliakra as the main things to see on the litoral between Varna in Bulgaria and the Romanian border resort of Vama Veche. Tourist signs guide the visitor and there is a lot of available parking space in single file nearby.
Before visiting the Palace and its grounds, start witht the botanical garden, part of the complex. It is a raibow of colours and an astonishing array of cactus flowers, a good way to start the visit and work up to the wonders of the Palace and its extensive gardens.
