Muzeul Judeţean Gorj "Alexandru Ştefulescu"

Muzeul Judeţean Gorj din Târgu Jiu poartă numele fondatorului său, institutorul Alexandru Ştefulescu (1856-1910) şi este găzduit în prezent în clădirea fostului Palat Administrativ, clădire în stil neoclasic de secol 19.

Muzeul retrasează evoluţia istorică a regiunii, începând cu neolitic. Pentru perioada secolului 19 sunt exponate legate de mari gorjeni precum Tudor Vladimirescu sau generalul paşoptist Gheorghe Magheru. Acestuia din urmă îi este dedicată o sală, amenajată prin donaţia unor obiecte personale ale ilustrului patriot de către descendentul său, Vlad Magheru.

Trecând în secolul 20, sunt evocate momentele eroice şi tragice din Primul Război Mondial, luptele de pe Valea Jiului din toamna anului 1916 şi sacrificiul Ecaterinei Teodoroiu.

Mi-a plăcut foarte mult reconstituirea unei săli de clasă de tip mijloc al secolului 20. Acele bănci îmi amintesc de băncile Şcolii Centrale de la Bucureşti în primii mei ani de elev. Tabloul de deasupra înfăţişează o scenă de luptă dintre Voievodul Litovoi (voievod menţionat în Diploma Ioaniţilor din 1247 ca domnind în Oltenia) şi maghiari, creată din imaginaţie.

La muzeu se găsesc mai multe cărţi de istorie interesante şi cărţi poştale, precum şi informaţii despre numeroasele obiective de vizitat în judeţ.

"Alexandru Ştefulescu" Gorj County Museum

The Gorj County Museum bears the name of its founder, schoolteacher Alexandru Ştefulescu (1856-1910) and is presently housed in the Administrative Palace, a beautiful 19th century neoclassic building.

The history of the region is retraced from the Neolithic. Coming closer to the modern age, the 19th century has dedicated exhibitions to great figures from Gorj county like Tudor Vladimirescu and the 1848 general Gheorghe Magheru. The latter has a space dedicated that was arranged with objects from a donation by a descendant, Vlad Magheru. Thus, furniture and personal objects can be admired, all precious 19th century articles.

The 20th century starts off with the First World War and local hero Ecaterina Teodoroiu is mentioned.

I photographed a reconstituted classroom from the mid 20th century. However, this type of patriarchal atmosphere could still be found in the 1980s and early 1990s in some schools, like my own Central School of Bucharest. Above hangs an interesting painting, depicting a battle between Litovoi, a 13th century prince who ruled in the area - information about him is scarce - and the Hungarians who at the time vied for control of the lands between the Danube and the Carpathians, where Wallachia would form under Litovoi's nephew, Basarab I.
