În centrul minunatului sătuc Cisnădioara, destinaţie de weekend preferată a sibienilor dar mai ales printre cele mai vechi aşezări colonizate de saşi în sudul Transilvaniei (Mächelsbärch sau în germană Michelsberg) se află biserica. Nu este o biserică fortificată şi este relativ recentă. Nu am avut şansa să o vizitez în interior, fiind închisă, dar am auzit că are o orgă deosebită şi că se ţin în mod frecvent concerte.
Ce am apreciat cel mai mult a fost liniştea din curte, locul fiind fermecător. Am stat mult timp în faţa monumentului eroilor căzuţi în Primul război mondial, un monument sobru care transmitea o atmosferă din alte vremuri, o atmosferă sumbră, oarecum gotică. De altfel plăcile şi monumentele închinate eroilor căzuţi, omniprezente la bisericile săseşti, mă impresionează de fiecare dată. Mă uit cu curiozitate la sumedenia de nume săseşti, mărturia vitalităţii de odinioară a acestei comunităţi în Transilvania. Uneori simple, alteori mai elaborate, adevărate opere de artă.
The Evangelical Church in Cisnădioara
In the center of the wonderful little village of Cisnădioara you can find the church. The village itself is a favorite weekend destination of people from Sibiu and one of the oldest in southern Transylvania (Mächelsbärch in Transylvanian Saxon or Michelsberg in German). It is not fortified and is relatively recent. It was not open for visits but I heard that it has a great organ and concerts are often given there.
I strolled in the courtyard, enjoying the quietness of the site. There is the monument to the fallen heroes of World War I, conveying a sombre atmosphere from older times. I am always very impressed by monuments and plaques comemorating the World Wars, which can always be found in Saxon Fortified Churches. The long litany of germanic names testifies to the former vitality of the Saxon community in Transylvania, which has erected these genuine works of art.
