The Tudor Vladimirescu fortified boyar house in Cerneți
On a hill above the Nistor fortified boyar house (kula), in an old orchard, is the the Tudor Vladimirescu fortified boyar house. The Romanian freedom fighter had many lands in the area so he chose this spot to build his main residence, after coming back from war (the 1806-1812 war between the Russian and the Ottoman Empire, fighting for the former).
When I visited the place the sun was setting. The silhouette of the old residence was as impressive, surrounded by such old trees. There was a sense of abandonment but I could feel the footsteps of the people who had walked there, Tudor Vladimirescu and his volunteers, hiding weapons and preparing the 1821 Revolution.
In present times the kula is closed, waiting for an ownership trial to end. Another ugly consequence of Communism. I hope this gloomy episode will be closed soon and that this architectural and historical jewel shall be given back to the nation.
