Ludovic al 14-lea a construit Vesailles, Frederic cel Mare Palatul Sans Souci. Datorită Baronului Samuel von Brukenthal, Guvernatorul Transilvaniei în vremea împărătesei Maria Tereza a Austriei, avem astăzi Palatul Brukenthal de la Avrig. Poate nu se compară cu exemplele de mai sus, dar face parte din aceeaşi categorie selectă: reşedinţe de vară în stil baroc de secol 18, înconjurată cu grădini şi fântâni.
Din păcate în ultimele decenii soarta ansamblului de patrimoniu a fost potrivnică. Grădinile baroce şi-au pierdut forma, în prezent fiind planificat un proiect de readucere a lor în forma iniţială (cf. lucrarea "Grădinile lui Brukenthal" de Cornelia Feyer). Palatul are şi el nevoie de restaurare. De la principele luminat care a fost Baronul Samuel von Brukenthal am moştenit această bijuterie, pe care suntem datori să o îngrijim şi să o punem în valoare, pentru că ea este mărturia vremurilor când suflul atmosferei vieneze atingea poalele munţilor Carpaţi.
Brukenthal Palace and Gardens in Avrig
Louis the 14th built Versailles, Frederick the Great built Sans Souci Palace. Thanks to Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, Governor of Transylvania in the times of empress Maria Theresa of Austria, we now have Brukenthal Palace in Avrig. It may not compare to the examples listed above but it belongs to the same select category: 18th century baroque summer residences, surrounded by gardens and fountains.
Unfortunately, in the last years the fate of the heritage ensemble has been harsh. The baroque gardens have lost their shape and there is a project that plans to restore their initial form (cf. "Brukenthal Gardens" by Cornelia Feyer). The palace also needs restoring. From the enlightened Baron Samuel von Brukenthal we have enherited this jewel with the duty to take care of it and promote it as testimony of the times when Viennese atmosphere reached the foot of the Carpathian Mountains.
